There was 8 gallons of 21 year old fuel in it...

Kinja'd!!!

Looks like I’ll be dropping it off to be cleaned.

The sending unit is a little crusty.

Kinja'd!!!

Project car hell?

Might be more worth it to replace the tank outright, though either way run a few fuel filters in series that are able to be swapped out until you know the tank is “clean”. All of this after doing a thorough cleanout of the tank, of course.

What year/model roadster did you get?

Fuel tanks are hard to find and as expensive as unobtainium.

It’s a 1970 1600.

Nice, the smaller roadsters of 60s/70s vintage are growing on me.

I can’t wait to get it running. I weights only 2,020 pounds and has 95 hp. Most people report 28-30 mpg on the highway. Mine is a 4 speed though so probably a little lower.

Hell yeah!

Got my fuel tank back from being cleaned. It was dipped and sealed. They primed it, I’m going to POR15 it this weekend. I got my new fuel sending unit in the mail yesterday. I bought one for a 520 pickup because they look similar and it was only $20 as compared to $160. We’ll see if it works.

I hope to try and fire it up real soon.

How’s the XJS? I bet that thing is a dream on the highway.

Awesome dude! And I actually haven’t driven it yet, it still needs insurance and registration, plus we’re going to fix a couple things before it goes on the road.
